Amanda Bean, first grade elementary teacher at Jessieville, began her Back to School preparation in May as she became involved with a new study involving Apps with Curriculum in the Classroom. Based on the premise that apps alone are not enough for educators, this study is part 2 of Apps with Curriculum and examines the need for app developers to provide curriculum that is Common Core State Standards aligned. Teacher Creates Educational Storybook App with Curriculum

A retired National Board Certified English teacher develops an educational storybook app – “Smarty Britches: Nouns” – that teaches nouns to elementary students. Curriculum for educators, homeschoolers, and parents is free and expands on not only nouns but is also cross-curricular with the subjects of art, music, geography, and science; these lessons align with Common Core Standards. Curriculum Linked with Apps a Winner in the Classroom

Students at Jessieville Elementary School in Arkansas recently participated in a pilot program by a National Board Certified Teacher to use apps in the classroom, in alignment with Common Core State Standards and with accompanying custom-designed curriculum. Lessons plans and activities were paired with apps that students used on class iPads. Book app, “Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island,” inspired language arts and science activities that were applauded by teachers and students. Continue reading
